Your 5 Ads Are Really Just 1 Ad

Meta is ignoring 4 of your 5 ads. Here's why.

Why Meta keeps showing the same ad, and how to fix it with 5 real ideas.

Here’s a pattern I see almost every week.

A founder tells me, “We’re testing 5 ads.” I open the account. Same photo. Same offer. Same headline. One is blue, one is red, one has a different font.

That’s not 5 ads. That’s 1 ad wearing 5 shirts.

Think of it like a restaurant menu

Imagine a restaurant with 5 dishes on the menu. You order and find out all 5 are dal. One with extra ghee, one with coriander, one in a bigger bowl.

You wouldn’t call that a menu. You’d call it dal.

Meta sees your ads the same way. Its system now groups ads that look and feel alike and treats them as one idea. So when you think you’re testing 5 options, Meta is really testing 1. And when that 1 idea gets tired, your cost per lead climbs and nothing saves it.

Stop changing colours. Change the reason to buy.

After 8 years and 750+ campaigns, here’s what I’ve learnt: people don’t buy because of a colour. They buy because something in the ad speaks to them.

Different people need different reasons. So give Meta different reasons.

One product. Five angles.

  1. The pain: Show the problem your buyer feels every day. “Tired of leads that never pick up?”
  2. The proof: Show a result, a review or a before-and-after. Real people, real words.
  3. The offer: Lead with the deal. A free audit, a trial, a limited price. Make it clear and simple.
  4. The founder story: You, on camera, saying why you started and who you help. People trust faces.
  5. The objection: Answer the doubt they already have. “Too expensive?” “Will it work for my city?” Say it out loud and answer it.

Each one should look different, sound different and open with a different first line. If you cover the logo and two ads still feel the same, they are the same.

How to run it

  • Put your 5 angles in one campaign and let Meta find who likes which.
  • Give them enough budget and time before you judge. A day or two of data is a guess, not an answer.
  • Kill what doesn’t work. Make a fresh version of what does, with a new angle, not a new colour.
  • Repeat every few weeks. Ideas get tired just like people do.

The result

When your ads carry genuinely different ideas, Meta has more doors to open. It finds people you would never have targeted by hand. Your ads stay fresh for longer, and your cost per lead stops climbing every Monday.

The takeaway: Targeting used to be your job. Now your creative is your targeting. The more real ideas you give Meta, the better it finds your buyers.

Your turn

FAQs

Why does Meta show only one of my ads?

Meta’s system groups ads that look and feel alike and treats them as one idea. If your ads share the same photo, offer and headline, Meta sees one ad, not five, and puts most of the spend behind it.

Does changing the colour or font make a new ad?

No. Small changes like colour, font or button style don’t change the idea. A new ad needs a new reason to buy, a different look and a different first line.

What are good creative angles for Meta ads?

Five simple angles are the pain your buyer feels, proof such as a result or review, a clear offer, the founder’s story on camera, and an answer to the doubt buyers already have.

How long should I test new ad angles before judging them?

Give them enough budget and time. A day or two of data is a guess, not an answer. Then kill what doesn’t work, make fresh versions of what does, and repeat every few weeks.
